The removal of fat deposits from specific areas of the body is very popular in the field of cosmetic surgery. Liposuction can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas such as the chin and neck area, upper arms, abdomen, buttock, hip and thigh area, knees and your upper and lower back. Although liposuction can never be a substitute for overall weight loss (exercise and proper nutrition), it can remove stubborn areas of fat that refuse to respond to exercise and diet.

Your Liposuction Surgery
Dr. Thao will perform your liposuction at the surgery center on an out-patient basis under general anesthesia. Through a very small incision in the skin, a narrow tube or cannula is inserted and used to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. As the cannula is moved back and forth through the fat layer, it breaks up the fat cells, which are then suctioned out. Following your surgery you will wear a support garment for several weeks. You may experience swelling and bruising and any discomfort can be controlled with oral medication. Dr. Thao will also ask you to return to our office for six weekly treatments which will help your skin to shrink properly so that you will obtain the best results possible. Your recovery period is dependent on the number of areas you desire to have treated.
