Your Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction is performed in the surgery center under general anesthesia and usually takes from 2-4 hours. The procedure involves Dr. Thao making a short scar lolli-pop or an anchor-shaped incision around the dark area of the nipple extending downward and following the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. He then removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin, and adjusts the nipple to its new position. The skin from each side is pulled down and around the areola, thereby reshaping the breast. Gauze dressings will be placed on your breasts and covered with an elastic bandage or surgical bra. Discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.
